Why FireFly
Oct. 12th, 2005 02:35 pmWhy Firefly? Why do people LOVE this series? Why have they sold over 500,000 copies (Thats 2 million disks... )
Well.. Why do I like it. I've always dreamed of owning a space ship! (yes.. I'm a geek.. Geeks have these kind of fantasys.... They share the same space in ones brain as the dreams of owning expensive cars, huge houses, lots of money, and having a cute sexy inteligent fun naked girlfriend in your bed at night)
I have always dreamed of flittering around space at ludacris speeds in my own space ship with a great crew of good friends. Stopping off at various places and otherwise staying out of major trouble.
The Character of Mal reminds me of what I would like to be. Slightly rough around the edges, not afraid to put my neck out for what I want, Slightly bad but mostly with good intentions. I mean, that sort of person gets all the best lines! Sure he may be slightly morally flexible but he still generally tries to do good
But anwyays. Theres a serious lackingness of good sci fi out there, and theres an AWFULLY LARGE number of geeks out there who are desperate for it. (The sci fi.. not IT)

- [Mal refuses to kill the prone, humiliated Atherton.]
- Mal: Mercy is the mark of a great man.
- [He lightly stabs Atherton.]
- Mal: Guess I'm just a good man.
- [He repeats the poking.]
- Mal: Well, I'm all right.
- . . .
- Sir Warrick: You didn't have to wound that man.
- Mal: Yeah, I know. It was just funny.
