The Age - Students log on despite Power failure
Computer Power Training or whatever they got renamed to( Spherion?) went under in Early January. They pro ported to be an industry standard IT training organisation. However my own direct experience with them has left me very jaded and cynical about their entire course ware and business practices.
Many years ago, even before I was working at Connect.. (We are talking 10 years ago, Folks) I was investigating doing my MCSE. I needed to find a decent training company that I could attend. I called around a couple of people. One of the company I called up was Computer Power. I chatted to somebody and asked them about their training courses. I asked about their certification and if it was an Microsoft certified. They insisted I had to go in to a seminar in the evening and they would tell all. ( THESE days this is a major warning sign.. Back then I was naive. ) No amount of questions would get a straight answer about the level of qualification they provided.
Cut Story Short: I conned a friend into coming along with me to the seminar. he had already done his MCSE and I wanted a second opinion about this course. VERY quickly after we got there and the seminar started we were quietly heckling presenter under our breaths.
The training was NOT Microsoft certified. It was their own form of exam and certification. As was most if not all of their other certification that I remember. They CLAIMED to be industry accredited. I laugh at their claim.
Sure they may have taught well. (I doubt it) But a CP certification isnt global. an MCSE is at least accepted as a REAL Microsoft certification wherever you go. A CP certification would only have been accepted locally.
Anyways: I'm not upset to see them go. I was Angry with their deception at the time and I still remember that anger
