A while back I heard a sound bite of a song that caught my interest. It had a kewel trumpet sound in it that just grabbed me. The only problem was that I couldnt identify the song. i couldnt rememebr where I had heard it and what it was. Over time the actual tune left my mind but the memory of a kewel track was still there.
A couple of weeks ago I heard it again. It was on a compilation CD. BUT It was being advertised on TV and I didnt actualy grab the song name or which CD it was other than Knowing it was on an 2004 Austrtalian compilation CD.
So off I went to JB HI-FI and hunted for the CD. there were a couple of compilation CDs available. Onto my credit card they went. Of the 4 disks and 72 songs on them, I put in a disk at random and the first track of the disk was the one I was looking for.
So what was the Song: The Chariot by The Cat Empire.
The CD I found it on was JJJ Home and Hosed.
So now I had found the music I wanted!.. Great song.. catchy tune. not QUITE what I rememebr it as but damn kewel all the same.
Having listened to it I wanted to find out what the rest of the music was like. Off I headed to JB again to find and purchase the Cat Empire CD. people around me still talk of just downloading the music from the net. I find i cant do this. I will happily download a song. and listen to it to see if its the one I want or if I actually like it. But to actually listen to my music! I prefer to have it loaded in my stacker. Theres something physical about a printed CD that I LIKE.
I listen to the CD and bring it to work to copy. Into the CD drive on my work computer it goes, and before you know it its been converted to MP3 and copied into my MP3 folder. (Can anybody say fair use?).
It wasnt untill this was all done that I noticed the "Copy Controlled" logo on the CD case.. WTF? Two things need commenting on.
1) Stupid copy control didnt stop me listening to the CD at all. nor did it stop me ripping the tracks to MP3.
2) I swore that I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER buy a copy controlled CD, out of protest at the Futility and stupidity of the distributers. I guess my experience today is a perfect example of how futile and stupid the whole copy control stuff is.
*grumbles* Some people just dont get it
