When I was at Continuum[1] I commented on the building across the street that was nearing completion. The building, Council House 2 is supposedly Australia's first Six Star environmentally friendly building. This building can be found in Little Collins Street just behind and beside the the town hall opposite the Victoria hotel.

Anyway

Along the street side of the building there are 4 or 5 verticle plastic tubes. I was saying these tubes heated up and caused the air to rise sucking air out of the buidling. I was wrong. Apparently water is sprayed into them from the top and mixed with building air, it cools and sinks to the basement.. It can cool the air from 20c to 13c in the drop. they are called "Shower Towers"

Diagram of how the building works

Well.. I SORT of had my facts right. They WERE part of the cooling system just worked in the reverse direction that I suggested.

[1] Incidentally the con report is still coming ... eventually... or maybe not.. we will see. Maybe I should carry a pocket computer with me and make updates on the fly... maybe just a smaller laptop
